Just a quick write up of my day at the Nottingham PQ on Saturday 11th January. I finished 5-2 in Swiss, going from 4-0, to 4-2, then winning the pair up against a 5-1 in round 7 to secure 7th. I was fortunate that both my losses in Swiss finished 6-1.
Not going to break down anything in the deck as it's more or less the same as the other Quinlan lists (I am fully on team Grogu though, I know some lists are opting out.) Only unique thing I think is Wrecker over Falcon2, but this is just because personally I never found myself playing Falcon2 and I like the pressure Wrecker can apply.
Swiss
Round 1: Han2 Blue - 2-0. Tarkintown into Han2 is just borderline cheating
Round 2: Han1 Yellow - 2-1. Some close games but just managed to Spark/ Qi'ra the Cunnings in the wins to maintain a good board, had the answer to the early Han Flip both wins with Surprise Strike or Plo Koon both as well which is big for the match up.
Round 3: Sabine ECL - 2 - 1. Close series against Mark Fairbrother of Unlimited Power on Youtube. Ultimately it came down to being able to force the early ECL by trading board and an early TT to be up on units on the Sabine flip.
Round 4: Sabine ECL 2-0 against fellow AD member Michael Spearman. Same as round 3, was just able to control the board and prevent Sabine armageddon both games with TT. 15 year Friendship is relatively intact .
Round 5: The bottling began . 0-2 against Han Yellow. Didnt have any of the cards you want to see against the deck (Spark, Qi'ra, Plo) and he played everything perfectly to capitalise on it. Clearly a very confident player on the Han Yellow.
Round 6: Bottling continues, I'm starting to sweat. 0-2 against Jango TT. A match up I am ordinarily confident against the deck, but game 1 an ISB + Daring Raid got my turn 1 without burning TT and I couldn't gain back the tempo, as he slapped a Vambrace on the ISB and I was cooked. Game 2 I just got out raced. Opponent was super positive though and helped me not tilt out ahead of the make-or break round 7, so shout our Ben if you're reading this.
Round 7: Redemption time. 2-0 VS Cad TT on the pair up. Both games I just pulled a lot of Sparks and Force Throws+ Grogu, so he was top decking and my leader just came out first, so had pressured too much damage on his base before Cad flip.
Top-cut
Quarters. 2-0 Against Jango TT. Good games where neither of us used TT early weirdly, we were just trading units a little and then both ended up using TT on 3 costs on like turn 4/5. I was just able to win the race thanks to Falcon and having both Waylays in hand game 2 for the Firespray.
Semis. 2-1 Against Qi'ra Green30. Super good games where I was frankly just lucky to draw how I did, played 7-8 Spark of Rebellions and 3-4 force throws accross the 3 games, so my opponent was top decking most of the game whilst I just kept forcing damage with Falcon and Cassians. Game 2 was the loss, which admittedly was probably my win but I just couldn't count my own base health properly and so bottled my own lead as he was threatening lethal. Would've kept me up at night if I hadn't of won game 3. Shout out to Tristan for being a good sport about playing most of a Semi finals Bo3 with no cards in hand.
Finals. 1-2 against the 9-0 Sabine ECL. Honestly not much to say, he was just better and the list was really well tuned into a TT meta. Didn't see any Daring Raids or enough Force throws which would've done me a world of good into his Jyn which was RUINING me. ECL K2 in all 3 games just applied way too much pressure. Game 2 I nearly lost as well and only won because he didn't top deck a pump and left me on 1hp. Super deserved win by my opponent.
Overall super happy with 2nd out of 94. Was just relieved to make top 8 and not have choked a 4-0 into a 4-3. Finals was a bonus. The vibes in the top 8 were great as well from all players.
Definitely sticking with Quinlan TT for future PQs as it has the legs into all the meta decks, and it's a comfortable pair of shoes for me.
